In the tradition of the beloved holiday specials A Celebration of Christmas and A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns comes Brigham Young University's newest offering, Songs of Praise and Remembrance. Videotaped and recorded before a live audience, this concert program features exceptional production values, with film-quality lighting and sets, and breathtaking images of 600 singers and 80 instrumentalists performing thoughtful songs and folk hymns especially arranged for this Memorial Day special. Four choirs perform, with the Philharmonic Orchestra, all from BYU's School of Music, and under the direction of conductors Ronald Staheli, Mack Wilberg, Bryce Rytting, and Cherilyn Worthen. In the period of national shock after 9/11, Songs of Praise and Remembrance was widely rebroadcast to help with the processes of mourning, celebrating the lives of those departed, and reaffirming the essential beauty and goodness of life. A beautiful collector's item either as an audio or a video experience.
